WILBUR - I am stuck! I need early data on my husband's families. David WILBUR and
his wife, Lucinda CAGWIN, died only weeks apart in Jan/Feb, 1880 in Custer, Mason County, MI. No date of birth was given for either, but it appears from their ages at death that David was born circa 1805 and
Lucinda was born circa 1807. David's death certificate states that he was born in NY, the son of Job and Rebecca Wilbur. Lucinda's death certificate states that she was born in NY, the daughter of Gardner and
Candis Cagwin. I believe that they are the same Gardner and Candace Cagwin who are buried in the disused Cagwin Family Cemetery in Franklin, but the dates don't quite jibe. I have traced David and Lucinda Wilbur backwards from Mason Co., MI (their deaths) to Tuscola Co., MI (1870 census); Kinderhook, Branch Co., MI (1860 census); Toledo, OH (known birthdate of grandchild, 1859); Harpersfield, Ashtabula Co., OH
(Ashtabula County History) to Franklin/Harpersfield, Delaware County, NY. It appears that Job and Rebecca Wilbur had at least one more son, Cornelius D. Wilbur, who was born 16 April, 1817 in Franklin, Delaware County, NY and died 29 March, 1900 at the home of his niece, Ambrosia Wilbur Jerome, in Harpersfield, Ashtabula Co., OH. The known children of David and Lucinda are, as follows: (1) William C.
(my husband's great-great grandfather), born 1828, married OH 1. Adeline Jerome, married PA 2. Emily A. HAMMOND (WATERBURY), veteran of the 29th MI VI Civil War, died 1895 Cheboygan Co., MI, buried Oak Hill Cemetery, Indian River, MI; (2) Ambrosia F., born 1935 in NY, married OH Benjamin L. Jerome, died OH 1910, buried Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashtabula Co., OH, was postmistress of Harpersfield Center, Ashtabula Co., OH for many years; (3) Alanson, born circa 1840, served in Co. D of the 23rd MI VI in
the Civil War, killed 1963 at Campbell Station, TN; (4) Job, married MI Alma ?, died circa 1916, probably in Idaho. I would be pleased to share the data I have collected on David and Lucinda (Cagwin) Wilbur's Michigan descendants and/or answer any questions you may have.

The older girls are: Alice Louise WILLIAMS, and Minnie Eliza WILLIAMS, they range about 8 to 12 yrs--I'm guessing--and of course, Lucie Agnes has her age written on the back. They are obviously sisters. I have searched the census records for 1900 hoping they would still be at home, and the 1870 doesn't have them--as far as I can tell. My grandparents came from Pennsylvania, and New York, moving to Texas in the 1920's, and I feel sure that these pictures were taken while they were still in the north. WILSON I am trying to find out which Wilson family in Delaware County my Great Great Great Great Grandfather Peter B. Wilson belongs to. Here is some information I have about Peter's immediate family (birth years may be slightly off).
Father: Peter B. Wilson born 1786; Wife: Phebe (Dibble) Wilson born 1790; Children: Issac Wilson born 1811, William Wilson born 1823, Sarah Wilson born 1824, Eliza Wilson born 1829, Andrew Wilson born 1832, Phebe Jane Wilson born 1835, and Mary Wilson born 1838.
During the War of 1812, Peter was in service of the 13th Farrington's Regiment of the New York militia under Captain Amasa Parker which was formed in Delhi. I found pay records from 1814. He was granted land in Kent County, MI for his service in the war. All of the documents from the war say Delaware County, but do not list a town. I was hoping to find some sort of record of enlistment with an address on it, but have not been successful. The 1850 Census shows him, Phebe, and the two younger children in Kent County, MI. His wife received a pension after he passed in 1869. Phebe's father was Peter Dibble. In a book from the State Horticultural Society of Michigan it says, "Isaac Wilson was the son of Peter Wilson and Phebe Dibble his widow who died June 1, 1886 at Plainfield Kent Co. (MI) at the advanced age of 107 years. Her father, Peter Dibble, died at Colchester, Delaware Co., N. Y., at the age of 108 years." - I have not been able to find any more information about her family either.
If Peter is in fact connected to the Wilson family at Wilson Hollow in Colchester, then I believe his father would have been Issac Wilson and his mother Eleanor Decker. James C. Wilson (buried at Wilson Hollow) would have been his brother. I appreciate any help very much!

This old inquiry about the Wilson family mentions an Abram Wilson. In your inquiry you mention Frances Wilson being
a brother of Abram. Way back was James Wilson of my line who came from Dutchess county and is credited with service in the Revolutionary Army. His brother named in a fother documents was John who lived in Harpersfield not too far away. John was also in the Revolution and later lived in Harpersfield. This is according to some writings of the family. Their
father was also James so I can count at least four by this name in the family. Abram was born according to these old writings in 1823 the same as you have for Abram. Just a chance encounter., Thus you were looking for father John who has a record along with James as an officer in the Army. My records are also quite scarce but will try to get this to you. Will be glad to correspond and tell you what else was found.
Abram served in the 3rd NY Cavalry Company E and was fourty two years old when he enlisted. Wonder how many of that age from Delaware county could handle riding horse most of the day, eating out and sleeping in the open. Life was not easy in those days. Note also both of the lists of Titus Lake cemetery in the town of Harpersfield have some problems. The one done by Colin Haight shows him as a Williard instead of Wilson Abram. The other has him serving in the Eighth NY Cavalry. I expect to write a note to the Del. Cty. website and have the errors corrected. Since I live in North Carolina and have heart disease, I have not been back to the county since 2000. Abram is one of 187 service men and women who are related to me and are now in a manuscript awaiting the publishing of or copies for my family. --Jeremiah Palmer

Died 1842, Roxbury, Delaware Co., NY, buried Grand Gorge Cemetery. I need his wife's name and dates, the names and dates of his children and his parents names and dates.
I found a probate record that has his daughters, Hezhbah Weir, Sarah Weir, son Daniel Wood, jr and the wife of his deceased son, Elijah, Nancy. I have been researching Elijah Wood, born about 1787 in VT, married in 1808 Anna Fenton, b. 1790, Washington Co., NY. They had 9 children, six of which we have identified. We believed that Daniel was his father because he is buried beside him in Grand Gorge Cemetery, Roxbury. We know his wife, Anna went to Detroit, MI with her children about 1844 and died in Indiana, where several of the family settled, 1888 at the age of 98. One of Elijah's son's is named Daniel and several of their grandchildren are named Elijah, Daniel, and Anna. I found a Nancy Wood living alone in Porter Co., Indiana where most of them settled in the 1860 census and I had not been able to find an Anna Wood living in Michigan or Indiana. Yet, her obit. calls her Anna. Any information welcome.
