POMEROY - I am a researcher for the American Pomeroy Historic Genealogical Association and one of my tasks is to transcribe the data on the NYS Vital Records microfiche (Pomeroy surname) located in libraries in four cities in NYS--one being Syracuse where I work. In the course of this ongoing task, I've come across over one hundred records (births, marriages and deaths) of Pomeroys who lived and worked in Delaware County. Most were descendants of early pioneers who settled in Franklin, Sidney, Sidney Center, Hampden, and Walton in the early 1800s. Each of these VR documents, (which date after 1885 depending on when counties complied with state law), contain specific information which can pinpoint dates and locations of births, marriages, deaths and which give the certificate number of the document filed in counties and in Albany. Having a certificate number expedites getting a document, (though a fee is still charged to get a copy of the document) which can take several weeks for a genealogical request. So it might be of interest to descendants who may still be living in, or connected to folks in, Delaware County, and who can't easily access these certificate numbers. We are updating a three volume history of the American Pomeroys descended from Eltweed Pomeroy and information on these documents has often brought verification, sometimes a correction or even a total surprise. We would be happy to share information on what we have collected from Vital Records microfiche about Delaware County Pomeroy residents, and we are equally interested in hearing from descendants of the area who may very well have clues, stories, records or artifacts that would add to our project goal. Respondents may contact Alethea Connolly at: aconnolly@cxtec.com.

Ellen's father was born in Cooperstown, N.Y. and I am guessing that MAYBE just maybe they went to this area after their marriage in 1866 in Wayne County, NY. I have never been able to pin his existence down. I have seen reference to him in several pieces of information about Myron and his third wife (Sarah Spooner, Ellen's sister). The reference was that he was born in "Delaware," nothing else. I never could believe that they had moved to the state of Delaware after their marriage, but I can believe that they went to Delaware County, NY, because of the connection of Cooperstown to her father and the relative closeness of Delaware County to Cooperstown. Next known place of residence of Myron Pratt was Rock Island County, Illinois.

I'm searching for anything anyone knows or finds on a Preston family living in or near Franklin in the late 1790's-early 1800's. My ggg grandma was Elinora Preston and I need her parents names and siblings if known. Elinora probably died in Franklin about the summer of 1836 shortly after the birth of daughter Elizabeth in 1936. Her husband Emanuel Northup re-married in December 1936 to Sally Betsey Barlow, Gorham and they are buried in Plains Cemetery, Oneonta, NY. No sign of Elinora's burial in either county so far. Ther only Preston I have seen so far is in the 1800 Census of Franklin in the person of Chandler Preston b. 1771. Other than that he is found to have witnessed a deed in 1802 in Sidney, NY. He married in 1834 Hannah Lewis of Chenango Co, NY and had 4 children with her starting in 1836. She was born in 1810 in Chenango Cp, NY. I just don't know if Chandler is the one or not.
