ODELL - I am trying to find Stephen Odell (Odel) who served in the New York Militia during the Revolutionary War. He could be from Delaware, Orange or Ulster County, depending on the boundary lines at that time. NARA said they can not find any record of him and suggested I try in NYS. Don Pratt - posted 12-2002

ODWELL - Does anyone have any information on the Trial of John T. Odwell, an attorney in Downsville (1880s-1900s), who was accused of defrauding Civil War Pensioners, including my grandfather, Emory T. Rowe. I realize that John T. Odwell is recognized in various County historical records as a "respected" attorney, but I have in my posession my grandfather's pension papers which indicate the John T. Odwell was tried in New York City on 18 Nov 1884 for "violations of the law committed in Sullivan (and Delaware) County". I also realize that a son of John T. Odwell, Frederick Odwell is enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame as a Cincinnatti Reds ball-player. I would appreciate any info anyone has about John T. Odwell. Robert A. Rowe - posted 03-2002

OGDEN - I'm writing a biography on William B. Ogden; and am searching for any info on personal papers, diaries, unpublished stories, etc. about William and his father Abraham. Will be visiting Delaware County in August. My other book, the first-ever bio on John Ogden (1609-1682) the progenitor of the Ogden line in America, will be published late this year by Fairleigh Dickinson University Press. OGDEN - Looking for any information on Abraham Ogden, who came to Delaware County from Morristown NJ shortly after the Revolutionary War. He married a daughter of James WEED and Sarah RICHARDS. Their son William Butler Ogden was born June 15, 1805 in Walton. He was elected a member of the NYS legislature for Delaware County in 1834. He was elected the first mayor of Chicago in 1837. OLDS - Briggs Cherrytree Olds b. 1813 some place in NY, Olds family tradition has Briggs Father's name as Elijah. I have come accross the name Briggs Cherrytree in the 1800 and 1810 Delaware Co. NY Census. I can't help but think that Briggs Cherrytree Olds' mother must have been a Daughter of Briggs Cherrytree. Any Help is appreciated. Joe - posted 10-98

OLIVER - William B. OLIVER married Hattie F. LOVE on 8 Feb 1881 in Walton. He was listed in the marriage notice as "of Burlingame, Kansas", but I believe he was the son of William OLIVER, born 1822 in Scotland, and Harriet (?) who lived in Cannonsville. OLIVER - and ODELL - familles moved to Delaware County from Greene County by way of Sullivan County around 1855. they were Native Americans and lived on a farm in Meredith area called Wilbur farm. OLMSTED - I would like to share information on the decendants of Roswell and Lucy Merrill Olmsted, perhaps the first Olmsteds in the Davenport area. Roswell was born January 30, 1805 and died March 6, 1889. Lucy was born January 1, 1809 and died March 1, 1879. They lived on Charlotte Creek Road in Davenport in the 1869 atlas. They had at least one son, Chancy, who lived down the road. Roswell and Lucy are buried in the Fergusonville Cemetery. Anyone with these people in your line, please contact me. Thank You. OLSEN - Kaj Artur Olsen is my grandfather. He married Ellen Christina Marie ???? Nelson in the 1930s. Kaj died in 1973 in Boston during a heart surgery. Ellen and his only son runs White House Farms at time. Ellen is alive and at the Stamford Nursing home. She doesn't remember what is going on anymore. I am trying to find information on Kaj's parents, siblings, and place of birth. My aunts and father cannot seem to be able to fill in the places. Could anyone please help. O'NEIL - John J. O'Neil 1853-1923 W. Rutland, VT m. Clara Major (unk) lived in Roxbury, NY and is buried there somewhere. He was my gguncle and custodian of my grandfather Michael John O'Neill 1882-1946 who was educated in the Roxbury Schools. His father Thomas C. O'Neil 1857-1888 was killed in a train crash and his mother Mary Shea (Rees) O'Neill 1858-1883 died shortly after his birth. Any records of John J. O'Neil 1853-1923 that took care of an orphaned boy of 6 years old should be sought. For the Roxbury, NY school system had to be a plus for my grandfather. He graduated from Roxbury HS around 1900 and NYU class of 1904 with a degree of bachelor of science in civil engineering. For a number of years engineer for the board of water supply at the Ashokan reservoir. My father Donald Thomas O'Neill 1908-1948, the first of 7 children, was born nearby in Kingston, NY. A story is always never-ending when family history is involved. Your welcome page of the Delaware County NY Genealogy and History Site stands out. Hope this posting has the same results. Michael J. O'ROURKE/ ROOK - I found an obituary for Thomas Rourke - Rook who lived near Harvard, NY. It says he was born in Ireland and came to this country about 1850. Soon after landing he became acquainted with a Mr. L.J. Williams who brought him to Delaware County, NY. Thomas died in August of 1887 and he and wife Bridget are buried in Long Flat Cemetery, Delaware County, NY. Anyone have any connections to this family? Tina Pabst - posted 08-2007

O'ROURKE - Seeking information regarding John Edmund O'Rourke who was born June 1, circa 1854 and adopted by the Wright family. ORR - Robert - I am desperately looking for the parents of ROBERT ORR (b. abt. 1796), husband to NANCY BEERS. Robert and Nancy were married Jan. 11, 1830 in Walton. There are two other Robert Beers (Robert J and Robert S Beers - these are NOT the Robert I am looking for, and one of them is married to a Nancy). In addition, I do not believe the Robert from Kortright nor the one from Davenport are the correct ones either. Robert Orr and Nancy Beers are the parents of Sara Elizabeth (Orr) Taggart, wife to Joseph Taggart. Nancy Beers was the daughter of Jared Beers and Sarah Parsons and was born June 14, 1806 in Fairfield, Ct. I believe Nancy (Beers) Orr's date of death is Oct. 21, 1875. OSMER - I need information on John Osmer and his family. He resided in Meredith, Delaware Cty., in 1810. Am trying to see if he is married to Abigale, and if so, what her maiden name was. They were the parents of my ancestor William Osmer, who married Francis Murry and moved to Wisconsin, and lived there next to several Ostranders.
