GADDIS - Searching for anyone with knowledge of Adam GADDIS and family in Delaware County. I believe I have found him as Adam GEDDIS in the Orange County census in New Windsor for 1800 (filed 2 May 1801), but by early 1800's he is in Delaware County. He supposedly came from Monaghan, Ireland. It has been stated that he came with his wife, Catherine (nee McKEE)(had originally thought to have been a Nancy NN), a son, John (b. 1798 in Monaghan) and a daughter. Also, with two brothers (names unknown) and a sister, Kate. The twelve children of Adam and Catherine married into the FOX, LOUDEN, LAMB, McCOY, IMBLER, DIBBLE, HARPER, BUTTS, LESLIE, CARLEY, SMITH (John and William), DAVIDSON families. The families settled into Davenport, Kortright, Meredith and Harpersfield. In 1836 Adam and Catherine with some of the younger children moved to Morgan County, IL.

GANOUNG - My name is Susan Schneider and I have been tracing my family history back for a while now. It seems that a few of my family members were buried in the Vega Cemetery and I am looking for any information out there on them. The family name is Ganoung (John Reuben Jackson and his wife Emma (Noxon), and their children Sarah (Craft), Mary (Ballard), Harriet (Corbin), John, and Alfred). I am also really interested in another member of the household, supposedly a daughter, named Augusta - she is also buried in the Vega cemetery, but under the name Augusta A. Craft. It seems that Augusta married Stephen Craft and had my great-great-grandmother Florence M. Craft. Unfortunately, I have run into a wall on Augusta and the rest of the Ganoung family - I don't even know what nationality Ganoung would be. From the census information I have, it seems that John R.J. Ganoung was a farmer that owned his own land, so I assume there has to be something out there on the family, I just don't know where. Any information anyone can offer would be very helpful and definitely appreciated!

Chloe died. Archibald remarried. He and second wife Mary Ostrum were in Fremont, Sullivan Co. in 1870. They were then in Hancock, Delaware Co. in 1880. GOODRICH - COOK - My ancestor, Elnathan Goodrich (b. 1776, Sharon, Connecticut) married the local schoolteacher in Walton, New York after his first wife (née Sawyer) died. Her name was Sally L. Cook, and I am descended from one of their sons. However, I have been unable to find anything about her origin, e.g., where she was born, who her parents are, &c. I found her 'findagrave' page, and a mention of her in an old newspaper as 'Miss Cook, the schoolteacher, who afterwards married Elnathan Goodrich' but precious little else. As a schoolteacher in that era, with a name like Sally Cook (alias Sarah), she could have come from almost anywhere in the English-speaking world. Her gravestone in Elmira, New York states that she was born 19 July 1781 and an old book on the Goodriches states that she married Elnathan Goodrich 11 February 1813 in Walton, NY. Elnathan Goodrich was a timber merchant in Walton and a member of the Masons and the Congragational church (he was born in Sharon, Connecticut). I can't find a list of Cook children that lists a Sarah or Sally born 19 July 1781, or even a Sarah or Sally Cook that didn't marry someone else. I am also intrigued by her having a middle initial and wonder if that means anything. Later, from census records and birth records for their children, and their gravestones, it appears that they moved, first to Bradford County, PA and thence to Elmira, New York. Does anyone have any information about Sally L. Cook's origins?

GREENE - Re: Adelbert Greene (1855-1922) - I am seeking clarification of the circumstances surrounding the death in 1922 of Adelbert Greene. Entries in the Coroner's Reports from the Delaware County Board of Supervisors' books, under Adelbert Greene and Adelbert Green, on this website, indicate a finding of suicide "exact means unknown". Also, there seems to be some controversy surrounding the assumption of coroner's authority as indicated in the Adelbert Green entry. My information, passed down from generation to generation, was that Adelbert Greene had been hunting when he was bitten by a rattlesnake. He had made a tourniquet by ripping his shirt into strips which he had tied together. Also, the remains of the snake which he had killed with his rifle, had been found nearby. It was surmised that Adelbert had subsequently suffered a heart attack in the course of his ordeal, which attack had been the cause of his death. Does anyone have any further information about Adelbert's death?

I am looking for information on my family tree. What I have so far is the following from an 1896 book entitled "Commemorative Biographical Record Of Ulster County": my gggg-grandfather Griffin (first name unknown) married Thena Pelham, both native of Delaware County, and had children William, Joseph, Pelham, Green, Levi, James, Ezekiel, Sarah, Rachel, Emeline, Eli and Daniel. My ggg-grandfather William Griffin (1793 - ?) was born near Griffin's Corners and married Jane Rogers (1805 - 1888) who was born in Shandaken. William and Jane had children Henry W. and John (and George?). John married Jane Crispell and had children Jean, Josephine, Sarah, George, Effie and David. It is possible that John and Jane owned the Arkville "Griffin and Crispell hotel" as mentioned in a Dewitt B. Cole
sketch found elsewhere. My gg-grandfather Henry W. Griffin (1/1/1827 - ?) was also born near Griffin's Corners and was married 1/16/1850 to Catherine J. Smith (9/16/1831 - ?). Henry and Catherine had children Ezra (7/12/1858 - ?), Lester (1/4/1851 - 2/2/1892), Delbert (11/30/1862 - ?), Alice M. (12/2/1855 - ?) and Emma (5/13/1869 - ?).
