KELLY/KELLEY - (Robison/Banks/Hillicker) I am wondering if there are divorce records in Delaware County that date back to about 1880? I know that 2 members of my family (both brothers) were possibly divorced. The first one was Jonathan Stillwood Kelly/Kelley.(grgr grandfather) He was married to Freelove Hillicker (spelling?) and had 2 children John R. Kelly (my grandfather) & Cora or Edora Mae Kelly. Freelove was also married previously to John Alexander Carroll who died in the civil war. In the 1870 Census, Jonathan and Freelove were raising her children from her first marriage Wilson & John Carroll. 1870 CENSUS - Hardenburg, Ulster Co. NY. In 1880 Jonathan & Freelove are in different households. Jonathans wife Freelove shows up in a separate household with his 2 children in 1880. BY 1920 Census, John Stillwood Kelly is In Iowa (Glidden Carroll County). Sarah, Jonathan Stillwood Kelly's second wife was Sarah Robinson. B. Jan 5, 1859, d. May 13, 1933 I have an obit that states that they were married in July of 1880, but I can find no record of this. They went on to have 11 children. My guess is that they had to be married in NY before they went to Iowa. The second (his brother) was Nelson P. Kelly/Kelley. His first wife was Rosilla Banks, daughter of Joseph Banks & Mary Robinson. By 1900 census Nelson has married the Mary Baker - servant that was in the home in 1880. Can anyone tell me if there were divorce records in 1880? Or suggest where to look? I posted this on the Delaware County board as his parents William J. Kelly and Susan Bellows moved from Delaware County, Middletown, (between 1840-50) to Ulster County. In speaking with someone at the county clerks office and one of the courts, there seemed to be no awareness of there even being a Simpsonville. I did find her buried In Maple Grave Cemetery in Worcester, though elsewhere there are indications that she actually died in Harpersfield. I also saw a Timothy Ketchum (born 1807) buried there. Have looked for vital records of births, deaths and marriages for Simpsonville and found nothing. Essentially, I am just trying to find whatever I can on this family to indicate the predecessors and where they originated. Elsewhere, I have found that all of the Ketchums originated from one person in New York, but working backwards can find nothing more in Delaware county, so I have hit something of a roadblock to establishing any linkages.
