Gramma Alton: Photo abt 1915. Don't know what the connection between the two women is. Woman on left is Sally Montgomery Meeker (1820-1917). Woman on the right is my great great great grandmother, Rachel Bouton Alton (1835-1/24/29). Rachel was born in Roxbury to David Bouton and Eliza Canniff. She married George Alton abt 1852 and lived on a farm on the road from Todd Mountain down into Fleischmanns. She had at least the following children: Mary b 11/7/1854 (m 5/25/1874 to James Fairbairn), Wesley (m Nancy Delameter), Harriet (Aunt Hat married Charles Clark and a Polley), Nettie (married a Lyons of Hobart), Louise (married a Reed of Hobart), Eliza Ann (died young), Martha (married George).

The following obituary submitted by Linda Ogborn, August 5, 2005

Mrs. Rachel Alton, widow of the late George Alton, formerly of Fleischmann Heights, and who has lived in Margaretvile with her daugher, Mrs. Harriet Clark, for several years, died at the family home on Thursday evening, January 24 (1929), in her ninety-first year. The deceased was one of the oldest women in Middletown. She had been an invalid for many years and had not been able to sit up and be dressed for some three years. Mrs. Clark has taken the entire care of her mother all this time. Before her marriage her name was Bouton.

The funeral services were held in the Clovesville church on Sunday. Rev. Robert C. Reynolds, pastor of Margaretville church, officiating. The services were held at 1:30 o'clock with burial in the Clovesville cemetery. Besides Mrs. Clark she is survivied by six ohter children: John D. Alton of Roxbury; Miss Cora Alton of Fleischmanns; Mrs. Nettie Lyon of Walton; Mrs. Louise Reed of Hobart; Mrs. Mary Decker of Margaretville and Mrs. Martha Walker, also of Margaretville. The funeral services were very largely attended as many friends and relatives were present.
