This was a very fancy, large hotel that was a landmark in Margaretville and at one time dominated the downtown area. it was located on the main intersection of Walnut and Main. The Pocantico Inn was a favorite of summer tourists visiting from New York City. Sherman Sheridan Myers owned the hotel for many years until he sold it to Billy Walsh in 1927. It burned to the ground soon after that! The Pocantico Inn was formerly known as the Ackerly House, built by David Akerly in 1854. Akerly bought the lot in 1844 from David C. Sliter for $110.
