This photo is from Ray LaFever, "It's my grandfather, Ben LaFever and his brother Clarence. Grandpa told me that they are pretending that the cow is a phone! Grandpa was 8 and his brother was 6 when their mother died in childbirth (as did the baby). They were living in Sylvan Beach, NY, near Oneida Lake. Benson and Clarence were sent to Bovina to live. Benson lived with his Uncle Dave and Aunt Aggie (Burns) Draffen, while Clarence lived with their grandparents, Alexander and Nancy (Miller) Burns. This picture very likely was taken during this sad time in their lives."
