Organized at Ryker's Island NY 27 Feb 1864. Ordered to Department of the South [Hilton Head, SC] in April 1864. Assigned to 2nd Separate Brigade DOS, Beaufort, SC 13 April 64 until 27 Nov 64.

Expedition to Johns and James Island, SC 2-10 July 64. Operations against Battery Pringle [James Island, SC] July 4-9. Burden's Causeway [Johns Island, SC] July 9, 1864 [this is a site unprotected and is on the South Carolina Battleground Preservation Trust's list of endangered sites. Battle of Honey Hill, SC 30 November 1864. Demonstrations against the Charleston & Savannah Railroad 6-9 December. Tillifinny Station, SC 9 December. McKay's Point 22 Dec. Ordered to Beaufort, SC 2 Jan 65. Assigned to 1st Separate Brigade until Feb 65, then transferred back to 2nd Brigade. Duty in Beaufort until Aug 65. Mustered out 28 Aug 65. Lost 2 Officers and 28 enlisted, killed or mortally wounded; 3 officers and 112 enlisted to disease.
