Delaware County NY - Genealogy and History Site

I am looking for an identification of the soldier in this photo. It has been passed down through the Davis family for close to 100 years and was always thought to be Isaac Davis (my great great grandfather) by my older relatives. I have since learned that Isaac Davis was not in the 137th NYSV but was in the 144th NYSV co.E. From Andes. Would it be possible for a soldier to have worn the uniform of another regiment when having his picture taken? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. --Lou Davis, February 7, 2002
