NELLIE COUSE
A beautiful teenager, Nellie Couse is depicted in a formal photograph taken by A. P. Davis, the Elite Studio, Deposit, N.Y. This photograph survived Nellie's house fire in the 1950's with some damage. Nellie was born on June 9, 1876 in Masonville, Delaware County, N.Y. to Peter Harper and Emma Francela (Whitman) Couse. Her paternal grandparents are Alexander and Sarah (Rogers) Couse. As a young girl, she attended the Whitman School, a one room school house, in the Masonville School District.
She married LaVerne Lester Pearsall (1877 - 1949) on October 27, 1897 in Masonville, NY and they raised six children with five reaching adulthood in the Guilford/Norwich area. After LaVerne's death and a fire that caused major damage to her house, Nellie moved in with her daughter Helen (Pearsall) Cooley. After a day of visiting, Nellie quietly passed away in the night on January 23, 1961. submitted by Louise Chen, August 9, 2008
