Note: What a surprise! A picture of the Colchester Covered Bridge I don't have! Please note that the presently known Colchester Covered Bridge is the Downsville Covered Bridge. The Colchester Covered Bridge was located in the hamlet of Colchester, midway between Corbett and Downsville. The picture above from The Deposit Courier was probably taken in 1946 or before July in 1947. The cupola blew off the barn in a severe windstorm. I believe this was during the summer of '45 or '46. If God had not been protecting me that day, I would not be writing you. That's another story. According to my mother, Mabel B. Neff's notes on a picture of the bridge & my memory, the bridge was boarded up & closed to traffic in July 1947. The picture was taken from the NYS Rte 30 side. --Betty Watson, August 11, 2004
