Thomas Signor Robinson
D. A. Robinson's "Rogue Ancestor"

Thomas Signor Robinson b. Apr 1850 to parents Morgan and Abigail [Signor] Robinson of Hamden, NY. Thomas and parents lived with the Thomas Signor family and in 3 Nov 1875 Thomas married Clarinda (Clara) Keene daughter of Joseph and Hannah B. [Gray] Keene of Sullivan Co., NY and later Hamden (Delancey), NY. Thomas was apparently a school teacher in Delancey attended the Delaware Co., teaching Conference in Delhi in 1880. He had one (1) Daughter Meryl Robinson b. 1879. Thomas then drops out of sight, and in 1890 reappears in Deming, Grant, New Mexico operating a Grocery store. He has remarried and has 3 children as indicated in the 1900 census. His wife in Hamden died about Aug 1886. Bio on T.S. Robinson indicates he was a leader in the community of Deming and Chairman of the Deming School board. One evening he closed his store and hopped a train leaving Deming family, never to be seen again. Did he desert his wife and daughter and his family in Deming, New Mexico? Seeking a descendent of T. S. Robinson for possible answers.

In researching Thomas S. Robinson and his two families in New York and New Mexico, it appears that Thomas died between 1900 and 1910. Unfortunately, I do not have the specifics surrounding his death, however, his wife Mary J. Robinson indicated that she was a widow on the 1910 U.S. Census.
According to the 1910 records from Los Angeles District 71, Los Angeles County, California, Mary J. Robinson, widow, born @ 1862 (actual date may be August 1861) in Illinois lived with her widowed sister-in-law Sarah Hopkins and her nephew's family--Albert, Rosa, and Harold Pickart. Also, all three of her children by Thomas Robinson lived with them--Robert Earl Robinson (22), Irene A. Robinson (16), and Hilda E. Robinson (14).
Finally, I located Mary Jane Hopkins Robinson on the Find A Grave website (www.findagrave.com) and her FAG Memorial ID Number is 101384428. She was born August 1, 1861 and passed away on March 20, 1931 at the age of 69. Her daughter Hilda Robinson Davis is linked with her, and her FAG Memorial ID Number is 101384280. Mother and Daughter are both buried at the Inglewood Park Cemetery in Los Angeles.
I hope that in some way this information is helpful. If you have any questions, I will be glad to try to answer them and share anything else that I think might be of interest. --Karina Scott at ksrexdatter@gmail.com
