Davenport Cemetery

This cemetery is located a couple blocks back behind the Mobil Gas Station off the main drag (Route 23, I believe), in town. If you know the name of this cemetery please email me at stacknow@worldnet.att.net or the website manager so that corrections can be made. It was the only cemetery that the people of the area were aware of so, evidently the largest. I realize Davenport is Delaware County but I took the old road over the mountain to find it was only 5 minutes or less from Maryland, Schenevus, and Worcester in Otsego Co. I would have liked to have included it in the Otsego Co. category for the town of Maryland for those who may be looking for their family in this area because I have found extended family here that has shed light on my family of the town of Maryland and it's village, Schenevus. I do plan (and hope for) MANY return visits, which includes going back to these two cemeteries and finding others. I will up date my notes and share them as I go along. .... - Rebecca Stacknow, February 7, 2000

Charlotte Valley Center, Established 1857, W.Davenport

(I believe I took exit 17 (heading north on 88), making a right off the exit heading for 23. This Cemetery is located on the left up on a hill behind a church,... with a huge sign that reads "Charlotte Valley Center). This too, is only a few minutes from the town of Maryland. Any additional information on these folks would be greatly appreciated. I am planning to return in the Spring (unfortunately I had only a few free hours to spend in Delaware Co. during my last trip to New York). As my notes from my visits grow, I will update the web site manager with new additions to share with you. ... Rebecca Stacknow, February 7, 2000

the back of her stone reads:
daughter of J.E. & T.V.Smith
died Aug.26th, 1881

Nellie M.
the back of her stone is blank but I have a feeling she can be associated with
Sadie M. because they both have similar beautiful stones. They are small and
of something that reminds me of white marble, both are arched at the top with
a statue of a lamb on each, the lamb on one has it's head picked up as if it is
looking at something that may have woken it from it's rest, while the other has
it's head down, sleeping. Nellie M. and Sadie M. are buried right next to each
other and are surrounded by the people that surround them in this list, yet I am
unable to determine their parents, possibly because the wife or the 1st wife
are buried elsewhere or without a marker).
